Social Housing Units, Fountain Street, Waterford City.

About This Project

The project scope involved accommodation of 14no of mixed types dwelling units. The site consisted of several derelict buildings that required to be demolished.
Our intention was to provide a new, high-quality development that retained the style of the existing Ferrybank character. It is an infill development that respects the pattern of the historic urban grain by keeping in scale and proportions to the existing buildings in the area.
The development consists of three detached forms with two terraced housing units along Fountain Street and one semi-detached building at the rear of the site.
The development along Fountain Street is designed as continuity of the existing streetscape and then stepped back following the site boundary.
The design was restricted to a small palette of good quality, robust construction materials like concrete, architectural brick and metal.
The provision of a new soft landscaped public realm and car parks at the centre of the development promotes good social interaction ad overlooks public spaces.
